abstract The invention relates to a method for producing 2-(2-tert.-butylamino-ethoxy)-ethanol (tert.-butylaminodiglycol, TBADG) by reacting diethylene glycol (DG) with tert.-butylamine (TBA) in the presence of hydrogen and a copper-containing catalyst, the reaction being carried out at a temperature ranging from 160 to 220°C in the presence of a copper- and alumina-containing catalyst, wherein the catalytically active mass of the catalyst, prior to the reduction thereof using hydrogen, contains 20 to 75% by weight of alumina (A12O3), 20 to 75% by weight of oxygen-containing copper compounds, calculated as CuO, and <= 5% by weight of oxygen-containing nickel compounds, calculated as NiO.
