Disclosed is a method for producing barium carbonate particles which have desired properties, namely high purity, minuteness and a spherical shape. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing generally spherical barium carbonate particles, which comprises: (A) a step wherein a barium compound is mixed, in an aqueous medium, with at least one component selected from the group consisting of gluconic acid, salts of gluconic acid, gluconolactone, glucoheptonic acid, salts of glucoheptonic acid, and glucoheptonolactone; and (B) a step wherein generally spherical barium carbonate particles are obtained by reacting the barium compound with carbon dioxide or a water-soluble carbonate in the mixture that has been obtained in the preceding step. |
