Disclosed are a production method for a cation-exchange membrane, an electrolytic cell, and said cation-exchange membrane where degradation of membrane strength in the upper portion of an electrolytic cell during long-term use in the electrolytic cell is limited, which can perform electrolysis with good production efficiency, and which can be produced with a simple and economical method. The disclosed cation-exchange membrane is for use in an electrolytic cell, has a rectangular shape with a fixed thickness, and has a layered configuration, which includes a first layer having a sulfonate group-containing fluorine-containing polymer, and a second layer adjacent to the first layer having a carboxyl group-containing fluorine-containing polymer. The aforementioned cation-exchange membrane has a mounting area along one side (or along two facing sides) and a main area outside said mounting area, where the value of the fraction (the thickness of the aforementioned second layer) / (the summed thickness of the aforementioned first layer and the aforementioned second layer) is higher in the aforementioned mounting area than the aforementioned main area. |
