An extensive and intensive study was made on an NAD(P)H oxidase inhibitor. As a result, it was confirmed that a quinolone derivative having, at position-2, an alkyl group substituted by a hetero atom or the like had a good NAD(P)H oxidase inhibition activity. The compound has an inhibitory activity on the production of an active oxygen species, which relies on its NAD(P)H oxidase inhibition activity. Therefore, the compound can be used as a prophylactic and/or therapeutic agent for diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance, hyperlipemia, fatty liver, a diabetic complication and the like. |
