abstract An anastomotic ring applier system (30) for deploying a first compression ring (36) and a second compression ring (39) comprises an anastomotic applier (32) with a second ring carrier (38) adapted to hold the second compression ring (39), a ring approximation device (37) with a first portion (42) connectable to an external first ring carrier device (31) which supports the first compression ring (36) and a second portion (43) connected to the second ring carrier device (38), wherein the first portion (42) and the second portion (43) are connected to one another by a piston-cylinder thrust unit (66). A fluid pump device is connected to a pressure chamber (67) of the piston-cylinder thrust unit (66) so that operation of the fluid pump raises the fluid pressure inside the pressure chamber (67) and causes the first and second portions (42, 43) to translate to one another to approximate and interconnect the compression rings (36, 39).
