abstract A method for treating sludge from the mining or mineral industry according to which, before above-ground spreading, the sludge is placed in contact with a flocculating agent. The flocculating agent is a water-soluble organic polymer with a molecular weight between 5,000,000 and 25,000,000 g/mol and has an anionicity between 10 and 40 mol% and comprises at least one anionic monomer having a carboxylic function or having a sulfonic acid function, at least one non-ionic monomer, and possibly one or more cationic monomers. The flocculating agent is preferably branched, has between 0.02 and 2 mol% hydrophobic monomer(s).
