titleOfInvention | Nutrient medium for yeast culture |
abstract | The invention relates to a novel nutrient medium which has been developed for yeast culture and in particular for the selective isolation, differentiation and simultaneous identification of yeasts, particularly species of the Candida genus of clinical or environmental interest. The invention is essentially based on the use of a combination of sweet potato extract and yeast or tomato extract in order to promote the growth of different fungal species. According to the invention, the nutrient medium is provided with specific fluorogenic and/or chromogenic substrates in order to detect the enzymatic activity of the phospholipases, aminopeptidases, hexosaminidases and glucosidases, as well as substances containing proteins in order to detect proteolytic activity present in species of the Candida genus. In addition, the medium also contains sources of carbon, salts, buffering agents, bacteria inhibitors and agar. The nutrient medium can be used to differentiate between species of Candida with the aid of the colour of the colonies, the emission of fluorescence under ultraviolet light, the formation of halos and the morphology of the colonies. |
