abstract The invention relates to an oil-in-water adjuvant emulsion including at least squalene, an aqueous solvent, a nonionic surfactant which is polyoxyethylene alkyl ether and a thermoreversible hydrophobic nonionic surfactant, in which adjuvant the size of 90 % of the oil droplet volume distribution is less than 200 nm. The invention also relates to a method of preparing an immunogenic composition, wherein at least one vaccine antigen is mixed with an oil-in-water emulsion. The invention is characterised in that the oil-in-water emulsion is obtained via a temperature-variation phase inversion method.
