titleOfInvention Ischemic biomarkers and their use to predict adverse neurological events from surgery
abstract Methods are provided for predicting the occurrence of adverse neurological events from surgery. Such adverse events include, for example, stroke, delirium and transient ischemic attach (TIA). The methods are based on the discovery that levels of circulating cerebral NMDA receptor peptides and antibodies can be used to identify patients who are likely to suffer from an adverse neurological event. Also provided are diagnostic procedures for practicing the predictve methods of the current invention, and interventional strategies for reducing the risk of adverse neurological events from surgery (Figure 1).
