titleOfInvention | Enhancement agent for high intensity focused ultrasound treatment and method for screening the same |
abstract | A adjuvantfor high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy, which is a material administrated to the patient prior to the HIFU therapy and can decrease the EEF in the target region of the HIFU therapy, wherein the EEF=nPt/V (in J/mm3) meaning the ultrasonic energy required for the unit volume of turmor which the HIFU can effectively treat, and wherein n= 0.7; P is the gross sound power (in w) of the HIFU source; t is the cumulative time (in s) of the HIFU therapy, and V is the damaged tissue volume (in mm3) caused by the HIFU. The EEF of the target regions that don't accept the adjuvant is defined as EEF (baseline), and the EEF of the regions that accept the adjuvant is defined as EFF(measure), and the ratio of EEF (baseline) /EFF (measure) is greater than 1, preferably 2, and more preferably 4. The adjuvant makes it possible to treat the tumor in deep region and to conduct HIFU therapy for the patient suffering from liver tumor without the excision of rib. It also provides a method of increasing the energy deposition of the target region when conducting HIFU and a method of screening the adjuvant of the HIFU. |
