abstract |
Process for separating hafnium and zirconium from a mixture containing ZrCl4 and HfCl4, the process comprising the following steps: introduce the mixture of ZrCl4 and HfCl4 in vapor form in a column of extractive distillation continuously; 2. to selectively absorb vapors of ZrCl4 and HfCl4 by a countercurrent extraction solvent. a stream of said vapors in the distillation column; 3. extract a liquid or gaseous mixture of ZrCl4 and HfCl4 enriched in ZrCl4; 4. extract a liquid or gaseous mixture of ZrCl4 and HfCl4 enriched in HfCl4; 5. hydrolyze the mixture obtained in step (4) in an aqueous solution of inorganic acid strong, so as to form an aqueous solution having from 7 to 12 moles of acid per liter; 6. passing the solution obtained in step (5) in a resin anion exchange; 7. Elute and recover a fraction enriched with hafnium. |
