abstract A composition, and method for enhancing transformation of plants is provided. The method involves the use of a transformation-enhancing composition enriched with an effective amount of ammonium nitrate such that, when contacted with plants, it produces an increase in homologous recombination and transformation frequency in the plants. The composition, method and use of ammonium nitrate as described herein reduces undesirable deletions of the introduced DNA.
