abstract One group of polymers comprise repeat units of Structural Formula (I) and/or (II) where: R is -H or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, acyl or aryl group; Rings A and B are substituted with at least one tert-butyl group, 1-ethenyl-2-carboxylic acid group or ester thereof, substituted or unsubstituted alkylenedioxy group, or substituted or unsubstituted n-alkoxycarbonyl group and optionally additional functional groups; Ring B is additionally substituted with at least one -H; n is equal to or greater than 2; and p is equal to or greater than 0. The polymer typically includes at least two substituted benzene repeat units that are directly connected by C-C or C-O-C bonds between benzene rings. Alternatively, each repeat unit of the polymer is an antioxidant. The invention also includes methods of making and using these and related polymers, particularly as antioxidants.
