abstract A process for the preparation of a carboxylic acid of a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic compound, which comprises the steps of reacting a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic compound with formamide in the presence of peroxodisulphuric acid or a peroxodisulphate and a strong acid to yield a carboxamide of the nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic compound, and converting the carboxamide into the carboxylic acid by alkaline hydrolysis. The novel process is a carbamoylation process wherein the corresponding nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic compound is reacted with formamide in the presence of peroxodisulphuric acid or a peroxodisulphate.
