abstract | A method and apparatus for determining the coagulation status of a liquid. Particles of a material which experiences a force when placed in a magnetic field are caused to move through a sample of liquid and the position and/or movement of the particles is determined by a magnetic field sensor. By noting changes in the response of the particles to applied magnetic field it is possible te, determine changes in the coagulation status of the liquid. The apparatus may include an elongate chamber for holding a liquid sample with an electromagnet and associated magnetic field sensor disposed at each opposite end respectively. The method and apparatus is particularly concerned with measurement of the coagulation tirne for blood or plasma. |
