A coating composition for application to a food packaging film is disclosed. The resulting film can be used as a tubular food casing that, after cooking or heating, imparts a brown color to a foodstuff encased in the casing. The composition comprises 20-47% of a browning agent, 0.05-2% of a viscosity-modifying agent, optionally surfactant, polyol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt and has a pH of 2 to 6.5. |
