abstract The present invention is directed to use of levobupivacaine or a salt thereof for use as an anaesthetic in obstetrics. In one embodiment, levobupivacaine is in at least 90% enantiomeric excess with respect to dexbupivacaine. Levobupivacaine is useful as an anaesthetic in a human patient having or disposed to depressed myocardial contractility.
