The invention relates to a method for the production of zeaxanthin and/or the biosynthetic intermediates and/or subsequent products thereof by the cultivation of genetically-altered plants which have a reduced .epsilon.-cyclase activity in comparison to the wild type, caused by double-stranded .epsilon.-cyclase ribonucleic acid sequences, the genetically altered plants and the use thereof as human and animal feedstuffs and for the production of carotinoid extracts. |
