abstract |
The present invention relates to methods of separation and quantification of inorganic (Hg2+) and organic (R-Hg+) mercury compounds. In one embodiment, samples are collected and passed to an acidification step. Acidified sample is then passed to a preconcentration step, where the Hg2+ and R-Hg+ species are adsorbed onto a resin. After desorption, mercury containing solution is pass ed to cation exchange column. Separations may be performed on a column using thiourea as a mercury complexing agent. Possible quantification methods performed during analysis include ICP, ICP- mass spectroscopy, AA, cold vapo r atomic adsorption spectroscopy (CVAAS) and fluorescence. |
