abstract | The invention relates to a thermoplastic resin excellent in heat resistance, optical characteristics, and mechanical characteristics, a process for production thereof, and moldings made by using the same. The resin is characterized in that the polymer constituting the resin contains in the molecule a divalent phosphate residue bearing a spiro ring as represented by the general formula (1) and has a number-average molecular weight of 2000 or above: (1) wherein R1s are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogeno, aliphatic hydrocarbon groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, aromatic hydrocarbon groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and nitro; p and q are integers satisfying the relationship: p + q = 0 to 16; Xs are each independently oxygen, sulfur, selenium, or an unshared electron pair; Ys are each independently selected from among oxygen, sulfur and methylene; and n and m are integers satisfying the relationship: n + m = 0 to 4. |
