titleOfInvention | Multi-well microfiltration apparatus |
abstract | The present invention provides multi-well plates and lumn arrays in which samples (e.g., cell lysates contain~g nucleic acids of interest, such as RNA) can be analyzed d/or processed. In one embodiment, the microfiltration ar~~angement is a multilayer structure, including: (i) a column ace having an array of minicolumns into which samples n be placed; (ii) a discrete filter element disposed in each inicolumn; (iii) a drip-director plate having a correspond~~g array of drip directors through which filtrate may egress; d (iv) a receiving-well plate having a corresponding array receiving wells into which filtrate can flow. The invention oxides multi-well microfiltration arrangements chat are rel~~ively simple to manufacture and that overcome many of the oblems associated with the prior arrangements relating to: cross-contamination due to wicking across a common fil~~r sheet or (ii) individual filter elements entrapping sample ~nstituents within substantial dead volumes. Further, the vention provides multi-well microfiltration arrangements at adequately support discrete filter elements disposed in a wells without creating substantial preferential flow. Ad~tionally, the invention provides multi-well microfiltration rangements that avoid cross-contamination due to aerosol ~mation, pendant drops and/or splattering. Other disclosed atures of the invention provide for the automated covering heat-sealing of filtrate samples separately collected in an ray of wells. |
