titleOfInvention | Estrogen dependent transactivation system for gender sorting in avian species |
abstract | The disclosure relates to methods of detecting target molecules, such as hormones, using a hormone-dependent transactivation system. The disclosure also includes a sex hormone-dependent transactivation system and kit for gender sorting in avian species, which provides a quick, inexpensive, automated method to sex segregate avian eggs before hatching. Genetically engineered host cells containing the sex hormone-dependent transactivation system are contacted with a biological sample, and the engineered cells respond to the level of sex hormone in the biological sample by activating a reporter gene, which is indicative of the presence of the sex hormone. The disclosure further provides methods of gender sorting in avian species using the sex hormone-dependent transactivation system, which enables pre-hatch sorting of female embryos from male embryos. |
