abstract The invention relates to a preparation for the prophylaxis of restenosis. Sufficient active ingredient concentration in the relevant areas of the blood vessel walls cannot be achieved with preparations for the prophylaxis of restenosis known in prior art due to the fact that higher doses cause side effects. According to the invention, at least one lipophilic, anti-hyperplastic active ingredient having a distribution coefficient between butanol and water of >= 0.5 is added to a preparation. A sufficient amount of the lipophilic active ingredient is rapidly absorbed in the blood vessel wall. The preparation can be liquid or distributed by capillarity and can contain a contrast medium so that passage of active ingredients to the blood vessels occurs without further complications as is normally required in contrast images. The preparation can also be applied on a catheter.
