abstract The invention relates to a gas meter for determining the consumption of a ga s mixture. The inventive gas meter determines sensor signal values proportionately in relation to a throughflow rate and is adjusted for use as an energy-measuring device. The adjustment is based on a base mixture. When the consumption of gas is measured, a measured energy consumption value is multiplied with a correction factor which takes into account the heating val ue of a particular gas mixture at least approximately. This heating value is determined by an external unit. This enables the effective energy relationsh ip to be established for the gas consumption using a simple, economical gas meter. An invoice can then be produced according to this relationship.</SDOA B>
