The invention concerns a method for oxidizing a thioether group into a sulfoxide group using aqueous sodium percarbonate in the presence of a molybdenum salt as catalyst. The method can be used to oxidize the thioether group of a compound (I), wherein R1 represents C1-C6 alkyl, halogenated C1-C6 alkyl or -(CH2)n-OR9, wherein n is a whole number from 1 to 6 and R9 represents H or C1-C6 alkyl; R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 and R8, independently represent H, C1-C6 alkyl, or C1-C6 alkoxy and R7 represents H, C1-C6 alkyl, C1- C6 alkoxy or fluorinated C1-C6 alkoxy in order to obtain derivative sulfinyl (II). |
