abstract |
It is intended to provide convenient phytoplankton growth inhibitors which can reduce phosphorus components causing eutrophication in water and inhibit the growth of phytoplanktons and algae and a method of water purification in a closed water system. These objects can be achieved by adding a peroxide (in particular, calcium peroxide and/or magnesium peroxide) in an amount of 10 to 35% by mass based on the total mass of a phytoplankton growth inhibitor. The effect can be further potentiated by adding one or more iron compounds selected from among iron salts, iron oxide and iron hydroxide in an amount of 0.01 to 15% by mass, in terms of iron (Fe), based on the total mass of the phytoplankton growth inhibitor. |
