abstract The present invention relates to a method for producing protein-specific antibodies and to protein-specific antibodies that can be obtained therewith, i.e. polyclonal, cross-reactive antiserums having a specificity for haptoglobin of at least two working and domestic animal species. The invention also relates to the use thereof for detecting haptoglobin in samples of working and domestic animals. The invention further relates to corresponding immunisation cocktails, peptides which are useful for producing antiserums and immunoassay sets which are based upon the antiserums. Protein and protein fragments are used for immunisation.
