titleOfInvention Process and system for treatment of waste streams containing water-soluble polymers
abstract The present disclosure discloses a process and apparatus to accomplish same for complete solubilization, sterilization, radioactivity filtration, and destruction of clothing, supplies, equipment, and other articles made of polyvinyl alcohol. The process includes the solubilization of polyvinyl alcohol, the destruction of the polymer material with a hydroxyl radical, the removal of radioactive contamination, and the biodegradation of the organic acids generated by the process to yield a safe and environmentally benign waste stream suitable for discharge to a sanitary sewer system.
