abstract The invention relates to shaped articles based on silica gel and/or porous, amorphous mixed oxides. The shaped articles have a specific pore volume of 0 .3 to 2.0 ml/g, a BET surface in the range 20 to 800 m2/g and a compression strength of at least 40 N (determined according to the Chatillon method). At least 50% of the total pore volume consists of mesopores with a diameter of <= 50 nm. The invention also relates to processes for the production of shaped articles and the use thereof, as adsorbers or catalyst supports.
