abstract A process for phosphorylating primary fatty alcohols, secondary alcohols, or aromatic alcohols comprising the following steps: (a) forming an intimate mixture of one or more of the above alcohols and P4O10 or partly hydrated P4O10 or a mixture thereof at a temperature below 80°C; and (b) allowing the intimate mixture to continue to react for a period of time at a temperature below 80°C until the formation of the dihydrogen form of the phosphorylated alcohol is substantially formed.
