abstract | Methods and apparatus for extending the life of an x-ray tube (10). An x-ray tube (10) typically contains an insert (34) for generating x-rays. The inser t (14) is housed in a housing (18) wherein an insulating fluid (16) circulates around the insert (14) in the housing (18) to provide thermal and electrical insulation. One embodiment of the invention includes a processor (32) containing a coalescing element (40) for removing water as a vapor from the oil (16). Other embodiments include methods and devices for drying the interior of the housing (18). Another embodiment of the invention includes a kit (90) containing a processor (32) having a coalescing element (40) for removing water from the insulating oil (16). The portable kit (90) allows th e invention to be practiced on x-ray tubes (10) maintained in gantry supports of x-ray machines, such as CT scanners. |
