abstract The invention relates to a cationic copolymer. water-soluble obtained from a composition of monomers comprising, for 100 parts in moles 0 to 95 parts in moles of at least one water-soluble monomer (A) of formula (I): (see formula I) in which R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and R2 and R3, identical or different, each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a alkyl group or alkoxy-alkyl group; 0.20 to 100 parts by moles of at least one water-soluble monomer (B) cationic chosen from those of formulas (II) and (III): (see formula II) in which R4 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R5 and R6, identical or different, each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, benzyl or hydroxyethyl group and X1e represents a monovalent anion; in which R7 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R8 and R9, identical or different, each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, benzyl or hydroxyethyl group and X2e represents a monovalent anion; 0 to 60 parts in moles at least one potentially water-soluble monomer (C) anionic by variation of pH; 0 to 90 parts in moles of minus one cationic water-soluble monomer (D) having a single quaternary amino group, of formula (IV): in which R10 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, A1 represents an oxygen atom or a group -NH-, B1 represents CH2-CH2-, -CH2-CH2CH2- or -CH2-CHOH-CH2, R11 and R12, identical or different, represent each independently a methyl group or a group alkyl, R13 represents a hydrogen atom, a group methyl or an alkyl group and X3e is a monovalent anion 0 to 10 parts by moles of at least one monomer (E) hydrophobic; and 0 to 30 mole parts of at least one water-soluble monomer (F) other than the monomers (A), (B), (C) and (D).
