abstract A method of coating a surface with a polymer layer, which method comprises exposing said surface to a pulsed plasma comprising a monomeric saturated organic compound, said compound comprising an optionally substituted alkyl chain of at least 5 carbon atoms optionally interposed with a heteroatom, such as a halo substituted alkane; so as to form an oil or water repellent coating on said substrate. Substrates such as fabrics obtained by this process are also claimed.
