abstract The invention relates to the field of neurology, psychiatry, neuropathology and neuropharmacology, more specifically to neurological and psychiatric disorders such as Parkinson's disease and tardive dyskinesia, and psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, addiction and affective disorders, like manic depression, and other disorders related to malfunctioning of the mesencephalic dopaminergic (mesDA) system. The invention provides an isolated and/or recombinant nucleic acid or a specific fragment, homologue or derivative thereof, corresponding to a gene with restricted expression in mesencephalic dopaminergic neurons, wherein said gene is related to neurological and psychiatric disorders such as Parkinson's disease, tardive dyskinesia, manic depression and schizophrenia.
