abstract Heparin cofactor II (HCII)-containing preparations substantially free from at least one contaminant selected from among degrading factors, degraded HCII, polymerized HCII and coloring matters, in particular, HCII-containing preparations substantially free from degrading factors and degraded HCII; one of the preparations as stated above substantially free from any infective virus; and a process for producing these preparations which involves the step of effecting an operation selected from among hydrophobic chromatography, fractionation by using a water-soluble polymer, salting-out and affinity chromatography with the use of a basic amino acid as a ligand, preferably together with the step of filtration with the use of a porous hollow yarn.
