titleOfInvention | Stabilized ascorbic acid, composition, and method of use |
abstract | A dispersion for carrying at least one water-soluble material or water-dispersible material (especially ascorbic acid, Vitamin C) in a relatively stable form is described, the dispersion comprising an oil phase containing particles comprising water-soluble polymer, water-soluble material or water-dispersible material (ascorbic acid), and water. The dispersion preferably comprises particles which have number average diameter dimensions of less than 2 microns, more preferably less than 1 micron. The dispersion may comprise oil components such as, for example only, a mineral oil, silicone oil, or cosmetic oil. A method of forming a dispersion of solid particles which comprise water-soluble material or water-dispersible material (e.g., ascorbic acid) in a water-soluble polymer may comprise the steps of: a) forming a first solution of the water-soluble material or water-dispersible material (ascorbic acid), water and a water-soluble polymer; b) mixing the first solution with a second solution of a water in a surface active agent having an HLB of less than 12 or less than 10 and oil; c) dispersing the first solution and the second solution to form a mixture of the first solution and second solution; and d) cooling the mixture, solidifying the first solution to form particles dispersed in said oil. This method may have the emulsifying done at a temperature above 40 ~C, preferably above 50 ~C, more preferably above 55 ~C. |
