abstract Disclosed is a hollow article such as a sheet composed essentially of a membraneous material and optionally other medically acceptable materials such as gelatin and collagen. The membraneous material consists only of acellular compact and basement membrane layers of mammalian connective tissue, is composed essentially of collagen bundles and has front and back surfaces that are asymmetric with each other. The hollow article typically has a plurality of open-ended cylindrical hollow spaces therein with an inside diameter of 1 µm to 5 mm and is useful, among others, as artificial neurilemma for wounded peripheral nerves.
