abstract |
A mixed hydrocarbon stream (1) is hydrotreated to remove olefins and fractionated to separate C9+ heavies (3) in a distillation column reactor (10) and the C8 and lighter materials (6) are fed to selective adsorption units (20, 20') where the para-xylene (4, 4') is removed. The para-xylene depleted raffinate (9) therefrom may be subjected to an isomerization zone (30) to form additional para-xylene. The effluent (14, 15) from the isomerization zone (30) can be fed to the distillation column reactor (10) for hydrogenation of any olefin formed during the isomerization or directly to the adsorption unit (20, 20'). |
