Bmp-4 promoter and use thereof in screening of therapeutic agents for the prevention and/or treatment of osteoporosis |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a human bone morphogenetic protein-4 (BMP-4) promoter region and fragments thereof, a vector comprising said promoter region and host cells comprising said promoter regions or vectors. The invention further relates to a method for the identification of therapeutic agents for use in the prevention and/or treatment of osteoporosis, wherein said method comprises the steps of: a) introducing into a cell a first expression vector comprising a BMP-4 promoter region or fragments thereof operably linked to a reporter gene, and a second expression vector comprising DNA encoding the estrogen receptor; b) contacting said cell with potential therapeutic agents; c) monitoring the expression of the protein encoded by the reported gene. |
