A process for acyloxylating side chains of alkyl-substituted aromatic compounds, wherein an alkyl-substituted aromatic compound is efficiently reacted with a carboxylic acid and/or a carboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of an oxygen-containing gas and a catalyst selected from among cobalt, cerium and manganese; and a process for producing cinnamic acids by reacting benzylidene diacetates in the presence of a basic catalyst. |
