abstract | This invention relates to fire retardant compositions and methods of preparing fire retardant compositions consisting of water and a fire retardant, the fire retardant being a salt of thiosulfuric acid which decomposes at flame temperature in an amount effective to retard wildland fires. In the preferred embodiment, the salt of thiosulfuric acid is ammonium thiosulfate. The fire retardant composition may also include desired components such as corrosion inhibitors, suspending agents, coloring agents, antimicrobials, and stabilizers. |
