An article includes a colored electroplated metallic coating (6) comprising both nickel and zinc, on an underplate (4) of copper, brass, bright nickel or matt nickel, supported on a metallic or plastic substrate (2), the variation of color of the electroplated coating being independent of the identity of the cations (Ni2+, Zn2+, (NH4)+, and thiocyanate anions), in the electrolyte, but rather depends exclusively on parameters selected from current density, time of the electroplating step and current quantity, provided that the current density at the cathode underplate is within the range of 0.01 to 0.5 A/dm2. |
