abstract |
A method and kit are provided for identifying and characterizing one of a cellular component or small molecule. The method and kit include a hybrid ligand molecule (7) formed from two ligands such that one of the ligands is the small molecule (7b) whose specificity is to be determined while the other ligand has a specificity for a predetermined target (7a). The hybrid ligand is introduced into an environment containing: a first expression vector encoding a target for one of the ligands linked to a coding sequence for a first transcriptional module (8); and a second expression vector including a target for the other ligand linked to a coding sequence for a second transcriptional module (9). The environment further contains a third vector (6) including a reporter gene where the expression of the reporter gene (5) is conditioned on the proximity of the first and second transcriptional modules which is facilitated by the binding of both ligands in the hybrid ligand molecule to their targets. |
