titleOfInvention Heat treatment of carbon materials
abstract The invention concerns a method for heat treatment of carbon materials and especially carbon black in a plasma process for increased order in the nanostructure, i.e. an increased degree of graphitization in the carbon black particles. The process consists in an upgrading of commercial carbon black qualities and non-graphitic carbon materials. The heat treatment is conducted in a plasma zone where the residence time and power supplied are controlled in order to ensure that the carbon material does not sublimate. Thus the carbon which is supplied to the plasma zone is prevented from being transformed and reformed into a new product.
