abstract | An ophthalmic implant for treatment of glaucoma includes a tube (32) and a flanged disk (34) connected to an outlet end (50) of the tube (32). The tube passage (38) is sized sufficiently small to inhibit the flow of aqueous humor through the tube passage (38) when the IOP is below a threshold amount. An inlet end of the tube has a beveled surface (40) and one of more circumferential holes (42). One or more outwardly extending retention projections (52) are provided for anchoring in the eyeball. The flanged disk has an outer rim and one or more inner uprights. The implant is implanted by use of a handle and a rodlike instrument (60), with a tip for insertion into the tube passage of the implant and a retention mechanism for retaining the implant. |
