titleOfInvention Improved wastewater treatment process
abstract In a wastewater treatment process, wastewater passes through an aerobic biological oxidation zone (12) for oxidizing BOD and converting ammonia nitrogen to nitrate. The effluent is passed to an aerobic mixing zone (16) and mixed with effluent from an anaerobic/anoxic zone (20) receiving sludge from a settling zone (24). Alternatively, an anoxic and/or anaerobic zone may be provided between the oxidation zone and aerobic mixing zone for receiving sludge, fermented sludge, or effluent from the anaerobic/anoxic zone for phosphorous removal.
