titleOfInvention Tundish impact pad and method
abstract An impact pad for reducing the velocity of a liquid steel flow in a tundish includes a base having an impact area upon which liquid steel from a ladle stream impacts and at least one sidewall. The sidewall extends in an upward direction along the periphery of the base and defines a flow area within said impact pad for receiving liquid steel from a ladle stream. The cross-section of the flow area increases in size in a direction away from the impact area to provide an expanding volume for reducing the velocity of the liquid steel within the impact pad.
