titleOfInvention | Explosive actuated battering ram |
abstract | A battering ram device is provided for allowing quick and forcible entry through locked closures. The device includes a ram (1) that slides within and partially out of a housing (2, 3). The ram (1) is connected to a piston (7) which also slides within a cylindrical housing (6). The housing (6) is connected to a firing mechanism (8) that uses an explosive cartridge (17) for driving the piston (7) forwardly and subsequently forcing the ram (1) partially out of its housing (2, 3) to deliver a blow to a closure. The piston (7) and cylinder (6) further include an energy absorbing mechanism (22, 23) for retarding the motion of the ram (1) once it penetrates through a closure. The ram (1) can be configured as a thin rectangular piece for allowing the ram (1) to fit between a door knob and jamb of most doors. Other ram configurations include a punch (31, fig. 7) for effectively knocking out a door lock of a steel or metal door, and a shearing head (41, fig. 8) for effectively cutting a steel cable, bar, or wire. |
