abstract | A component of a catalyst for producing an olefin polymer having a high molecular weight and a relatively wide molecular weight distribution in a high yield by using an extremely reduced amount of a modified organoaluminum compound such as methylaluminoxane, a catalyst comprising the above component, and a process for producing an olefin polymer by using the catalyst. The component is prepared by contacting the following compounds with one another: (1) a compound represented by the general formula Me1R1p(OR2)qX14-p-q, wherein R1 and R2 represent each independently C1-C24 hydrocarbyl; X represents halogen; Me represents Zr, Ti or Hf; and p and q are integers satisfying the conditions 0p4, 0q4 and 0p+q4; (2) at least one of the compounds represented by general formula 1: Me2R3m(OR4)nX2z-m-n, general formula 2: Me3HaR53-a, general formula 3: Me4¢Me3HbR6c(OR7)4-b-c!y, and general formula 4: wherein R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8 may be the same or different and each represents C1C24 hydrocarbyl; Me2 represents a Group 1, 2, 12, or 13 element of the Periodic Table; M3 represents a Group 13 element thereof; Me4 represents a Group 1, 2 or 12 element thereof; X2 represents halogen; z represents the valency of Me2; y represents the valency of Me4; and m, n, a, b, c and d are integers satisfying the conditions 0mz, 0nz, 0m+nz, 0a3, 1b4, 1c3, 1b+c4, and 0d4; (3) a cyclic organic compound having at least two conjugated double bonds; and (4) a compound having a carbon-halogen linkage. |
