titleOfInvention Device for automatically joining unwelded chain-type structures
abstract ABSTRACT What is disclosed here is a device for automatically joining un-welded chain-type structures presenting a one- to three-demensional extension of the chain elements and joining elements, which comprise each at least one opening as well as locking means and baffle ele-ment to prevent unintentional opening and being so configured that at least two joining elements are linked into a chain element by a joining movement carried out in at least two directions, which device comprises the following features: - two grippers (4, 10) are provided, whereof the first gripper (4) is configured so as to hold at least one joining element in a way that its opening is freely accessible, and whereof the second gripper (10) is configured so as to hold the chain element in a way that it is disposed approximately in the level of insertion of the joining element, - for achieving the joining movement the first gripper (4) is pivo-table through an angle ? .alpha. about an axis located in the plane of insertion of the chain element and forming an angle of 90° rela-tive to the plane of the open chain element, while the second gripper (10) is adapted to be advanced in a direction towards said first gripper (4), - a rotating means (15) allows for rotation of the chain element in said second gripper (10) through at least 180° about an axis lo-cated in the plane of the chain element and forming an angle of approximately 90° relative to the advancing direction.
